A core aspect of the Dons in the Community operation are the regular school visits undertaken on behalf of the schools in the Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray council areas.

The aims of the programme are again to provide planned and structured opportunities for both boys and girls to participate in football activities within the school curriculum. Moreover, teachers are given the chance to attend the school visits and gain a Level 1 SFA Early Touches Certificate award. The Community team emphasises that this service is not seen as a replacement for Primary PE provision, but very much and extension to the curriculum.

The sessions incorporate the strands outlined in the expressive arts document for children aged 5 - 14years. These can be delivered on either a half or full day basis, lunch time or after school and will cover individual skill, group practices and small sided games, with emphasis on fun, enjoyment, maximum participation and promotion of a healthy lifestyle.

FSA (Food Standards Agency)

In February 2006, AFC Dons in the Community, along with the Food Standard Agency, launched a new pilot scheme involving 6 City, 6 'Shire schools and 510 children. The FSA supplied the schools with workbooks containing a week by week programme relating to food hygiene and healthy eating for the children to work through with teachers. This 'theory' work was then reinforced during 6 weekly football sessions, delivered by Dons in the Community coaches, which also taught the children the importance of fitness in a healthy lifestyle.
