The Dons plans to move to their new stadium at Loirston Loch took a step closer today when Aberdeen City Councillors voted 23-17 in favour of approving the plans submitted by the Club and which the city planners had recommended be rubber stamped.

In view of the magnitude of the proposed development the plans will now be referred to the Scottish Government with the proposed time scale of a move in time for the 2013/14 season still on track.

Pittodrie Chief Executive Duncan Fraser commented. "Naturally we are delighted the elected members within Aberdeen City Council have taken on board the recommendations of their colleagues in the planning department. However, I would stress, while this is an important step in terms of AFC's move towards a new home, there remains a tremendous amount of work to be done before our vision becomes a reality.

"That said, I would like to thank our staff and consultants who have been working tirelessly behind the scenes over a period of many months in order to ensure each and every aspect of our application was as professionally delivered as it possibly could be."
